Degree attestation for Qatar

Degree attestation for Qatar – Is Transcript really required.

One of the most common questions from professionals heading to Qatar is whether a degree can be attested without a transcript or consolidated mark sheet. The short answer: often yes, but it depends on your qualification, your university and how Qatar’s authorities are verifying degrees in 2026. Here is what you need to know before you apply.

What changed in 2026

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has simplified degree attestation. It no longer insists on a separate University Verification Letter as supporting proof for foreign high-school, bachelor’s, master’s and PhD qualifications. Applicants now generally submit the legalised degree along with official transcripts, attested first at the Qatar Embassy in the country of issue and then by Qatar MOFA. This has made the process lighter, but transcripts still play an important supporting role.

Why transcripts matter — even when not strictly demanded

A transcript or mark sheet is how verifying authorities cross-check that a degree was genuinely earned: it lists the subjects, semesters and grades behind the final certificate. Where a degree certificate alone is submitted, the embassy or the Qatari employer may still ask for the mark sheets to confirm the qualification. Providing them upfront reduces the chance of a query midway through the process.

If you genuinely cannot produce a transcript

Applicants sometimes lose their transcripts or graduated decades ago from institutions that no longer issue them easily. In that situation:

  • Request a duplicate or consolidated mark sheet from your university’s examination section — most Indian universities issue these on application.
  • Ask the university for a bonafide or genuineness letter confirming your enrolment and graduation; this often satisfies verification even without the full transcript.
  • Ensure the degree itself is properly authenticated through the standard chain: State HRD → MEA → Qatar Embassy → Qatar MOFA.

One important caution

Qatar’s authorities do not recognise degrees obtained through distance learning or open universities for attestation. If your qualification falls in this category, confirm its acceptability with your Qatari employer before spending time and money on the process, regardless of whether you have a transcript.

In most cases, a missing transcript is a solvable problem rather than a dead end. Secure a duplicate mark sheet or a university verification letter, keep your degree correctly attested through the official chain, and your Qatar application should proceed without unnecessary hold-ups.

Quick FAQ

Is a transcript mandatory to attest a degree for Qatar?

Not always. Since Qatar dropped the University Verification Letter requirement in 2026, a legalised degree with official transcripts is the standard submission — but embassies or employers may still request mark sheets to verify the qualification.

What if I have lost my transcript?

Apply to your university for a duplicate or consolidated mark sheet, or a bonafide/genuineness letter. Either usually supports verification.

Are distance-learning degrees accepted for Qatar attestation?

Generally no. Qatari authorities do not recognise distance-learning or open-university degrees; confirm acceptability with your employer first.
